Craft CMS Dojo
Join us as we learn the basics of Craft CMS and get some hands-on experience with a dojo.
About this Event
During the talk, RJ will touch on the high level basics of Craft CMS and go through some of the positives and gotchas of the framework. For the dojo, we’ll install Craft CMS using composer and create a campground management system, where we’ll create the Campground model/entry section and install a couple of plugins. We’ll keep going (create user groups, comments) if we have time.
About the Speakers
RJ Nay graduated from Grand View University with a degree in Graphic Design. Shortly after, he started learning how to write html and css/sass in order to be a more effective web designer, but then discovered that writing code was his career passion. RJ then learned JavaScript, PHP and Ruby/Rails in his spare time, which led him to Shift as a full time Software Developer. RJ introduced Craft CMS to Shift as a more flexible option for clients who need a more robust solution that WordPress but may not have the budget/time for a fully custom built CMS, and has been championing that option since.
Nick Petersen graduated with a degree in post production editing and visual effects. Then was exposed to a form of JavaScript inside of Adobe After effects. That small amount of programming sparked Nick’s interest. Nick’s first websites was built with Adobe Muse around the age of 19 and shortly after started using WordPress. Once Nick was finally introduced to Craft it solved a lot of frustrations with other CMS frameworks. Nick is now a Software Engineer at Principal Financial Group specializing in front end development.
